Executive Summary: 2015 New York State Salary and Benefits Survey
The 2015 New York State Salary & Benefits Survey provides a unique snapshot of all facets of organizations within the Empire State: from the Hudson Valley and the Capital Region to the Southern Tier and Western New York, and of course, New York City.
Authored and compiled by The NonProfit Times in partnership with Roswell, Ga.-based Bluewater Nonprofit Solutions and in collaboration with the New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc., the 493-page report provides salary and benefits data for 141 different nonprofit positions, drawing on responses from more than 200 nonprofits. Participating organizations include local chapters of national nonprofits such as United Way and YWCA as well as local charities throughout New York, such as the Binghamton Philharmonic and Hamptons International Film Festival.
The report can provide a look at peer organizations in almost any category that matches your charity, such as geography, operating budget, or number of employees. There also are a variety of types of organizations, ranging from environment and animals, to arts and culture, and health and human services.
Salary and benefit information for positions found at New York nonprofits span the entire spectrum, from entry-level posts to chief executive officer and executive directors. The positions in the report are organized by 25 unique job families, allowing comparisons on the cost of each area of the operation, with minimums, maximums, and by key percentile (25th, 75th and 50th), as well as total cash compensation as a percentage of the operating budget, for each job family.
Organizations were asked to complete the survey with data that was valid as of Sept. 15, 2014. Participation in the survey was open to nonprofits with at least one full-time employee, working no less than 30 hours per week. Salary data for part-time positions was not collected but data can be used as a starting point to determine part-time pay based on a percentage of base salary represented.
Total cash compensation costs as a percentage of operating budget were reported as an overall average of 38.91 percent among the 213 respondents.
Average staff salary increases were consistent in both the prior year, at 2.46 percent, and the projected current year, 2.34 percent. Executive staff received an average salary increase of 2.5 percent.
